Nick & Stef’s Steakhouse emerges today as a 21st century rendition of the traditional steakhouse. Recalling the warm materials common to many steakhouses, the project attempts to approach the tradition from a contemporary angle. It materializes as a dynamic and fluid interior intervention contained within a stiff and permanent
shell.
The public areas carry the concept through by allowing all of the components of the project to read more as sculptural additions instead of permanent shell pieces. Folded maple ceiling panels are used to accentuate the difference between the solidity of the existing shell and the new motion of the interior. Within the canopy of these floating panels, strategically placed spatial objects/partitions made of mahogany and maple subtly divide the space into two dining areas, a bar, lounge and entry.
